OUR STORY
Founder Rod Hunwick creates the first RAZABALL
The Eureka Moment
Early 2019
Rod Hunwick experiences a pivotal moment during a shower when his high-end stick-handle razor breaks mid-shave. This incident sparks the idea for a revolutionary shaving solution.
Finishing his shave by holding the blade cartridge with his fingertips, he immediately felt how much more control he had over the blade position and the tension on his skin.
It seemed the stick handle just got in the way, and instead of dragging the blades across your face, it made sense to push them and control the downforce. Thinking of ways to achieve this, he thought the sphere shape was the answer and the first RAZABALL was born by glueing together a 1957 Chev Corvette gear leaver knob and a cartridge blade head.
The revolutionary design is backed by a Professor of Motor Neuroscience
Design & Development
Late 2019 - Early 2020
Rod takes an early prototype to Professor Reik, a professor of Human Movement Neuroscience at the University of Queensland, who is immediately taken by the revolutionary design.
From here, many more rudimentary prototypes are developed for testing, and methods of attaching the blade head to the body, including springs and magnets, along with the process of lodging patents for an improved razor with fingertip control.
Relocation to the USA
US Prototypes
Rod relocates to Los Angeles to further develop the concepts and conduct focus group testing with potential users. The feedback from these sessions is incredibly positive, with 90% of respondents saying they preferred the fingertip blade control.
Mid 2020 - Focus on Durability
As the journey started with a broken razor, durability became a paramount consideration in the design process.
Late 2020 - COVID-19 Impact
The global COVID-19 pandemic disrupts plans. Due to visa constraints, Rod is compelled to leave America, but this change of circumstances opens up an opportunity for continued development in Northern Italy.
For a cleaner planet
Shifting Towards Sustainability
The European consumer goods market's focus on recycling and sustainability influences the development direction. The project moves away from plastics toward metal and aluminium options.
Multiple Metal Concepts
Various metal manufacturing options are explored, resulting in multiple concept designs.
Single Blade PRO
The fully CNC machined version is developed, tested, and produced; while they pass drop testing, the manufacturing process is very expensive for an essential mass-market shaving solution.
With the Global cost of living crisis, the need for affordability becomes the focus, along with the use of sustainable materials.
Which Blade Gives The Best Shave?
Blade Testing
During this period, the testing of blades available in the market is undertaken.
Fine Tuning the Product Design
After selecting the best German made five-blade cartridge, the revised design was fine-tuned for final prototyping, shave testing, and production material selection.
On a trip to the UK, Rod is introduced to the production moulding process of using a thermoplastic elastomer material, which is ideal for the new RAZABALL design and 100% recyclable.
The new design is proudly British made with no moving parts, a lifetime guarantee and is sustainable.
10X Better than a Stick Shaver
